Requirements to travel to Venezuela

Immigration rules to enter and leave Venezuela, for both foreigners and Venezuelan citizens, including the electronic travel document.

Foreigners: visa and passport

Keep in mind
  • Foreign passport with a minimum of 90 days of validity from arrival (some airlines and consulates ask for up to six months: confirm your case).
  • Some nationalities need a valid visa to enter: for example China, Dominican Republic, Syria, Lebanon, Nigeria, Panama, USA, Honduras, Haiti, Ukraine, El Salvador, Guatemala, Chile, Peru and Middle Eastern countries, among others.
  • Visa exception: citizens of Qatar, up to 90 days for recreation, health or unpaid activities.
  • MERCOSUR countries: may enter with a valid identity card.
  • Provisional passports are not accepted.

Stay and additional documentation

Keep in mind
  • Maximum stay as a tourist: 90 days.
  • An accommodation booking (hotel or apartment) or a notarized invitation letter with the address where you will stay may be requested in person.
  • Sufficient financial resources to cover the days of stay.

Traveling in transit

Fact
  • Anyone connecting from an international airport must have a maximum transit time of 24 hours in the sterile area to continue to their final destination.

Venezuelan citizens

Keep in mind
  • Every Venezuelan citizen must hold a valid passport to enter and leave the country. If it is expired, it may be presented together with the travel document issued by the consular section where you are.
  • With dual nationality and an expired Venezuelan passport, you can enter with the valid passport of your second nationality.
  • The identity card does not count as an international travel document (except in MERCOSUR countries).
  • A deported passenger cannot board if they do not meet the above.

Electronic Travel Document

No problem
  • Implemented since June 1, 2026 for Venezuelan citizens who do not have a valid passport.
  • Purpose: to guarantee international mobility in accordance with international agreements.
  • It includes a high-density QR code for verification on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal: documentodeviaje.mppre.gob.ve.

Dual nationality: leaving the country

Keep in mind
  1. A Venezuelan with another nationality may use it to leave the national territory by following the SAIME procedure (Administrative Service of Identification, Migration and Foreigners).
  2. When traveling, carry: valid passport, identity card and the permit from the coordination of waterway and air border affairs (Immigration Directorate).
  3. To request the permit at SAIME: valid Venezuelan passport, valid passport of the second nationality, identity card, electronic air ticket and, for children under 9, the birth certificate.
  4. If the minor travels, add the travel authorization for the child or adolescent or another document that allows their departure in each case.
  5. If the second nationality is from a country without a consular visa requirement, entry to Venezuela is allowed without requiring that condition, because no consular authority can grant a tourist visa to a fellow national.

Resident foreigners

Keep in mind
  • Temporary migrant: ordinary passport, valid transient visa (if expired, no more than 30 days) and foreigner ID card. If you left with the visa expired through a SAIME renewal record and were away more than 90 days, you must apply for the corresponding visa.
  • Permanent migrant: valid passport, valid visa (if expired, no more than 6 months) and foreigner ID card. If you were away more than 2 years with a valid visa, entry is allowed, and the Immigration Directorate recognizes your status. If your nationality does not have a visa waiver, apply for the re-entry visa at the Venezuelan consulate.

How to handle it with TUCUAM

No problem
  • Write to us on WhatsApp or at our email and we will guide you on the permits and documents that apply to your case (SAIME, Foreign Ministry and consulates).

Reference requirements: governments change them without notice and the immigration officer decides on arrival. Always confirm with the country's consulate or with TUCUAM before buying and traveling.
