Traveling with minors

Requirements to travel with accompanied children and babies: infants, baby carriers, parental authorization and Venezuelan law (LOPNNA).

Own document

Each minor needs their own identity document or passport; it is not enough to be included in an adult's.

Fact

Infants (babies)

In general, infants are children under 2 on international flights and under 3 on domestic ones; airlines set the exact age and the minimum days since birth.

Fact

In an adult's arms

Infants travel on an adult's lap, with a reduced fare and without their own seat. An adult cannot carry more than one infant in their arms.

Watch out

Baby carriers and own seat

An approved baby carrier may be used if there is space on the aircraft; if it takes up a seat, it is paid for. It must carry an approval label and not exceed the permitted weight.

Watch out

Unapproved baby carriers

Booster, vest, harness or lap-held restraint types are not approved for use on board.

Not allowed

With both parents

Bring the birth certificate that shows the relationship, in addition to the travel documents.

Recommended

With one parent

The written authorization of the other parent, legalized before the competent authority, is normally requested. Ask us what applies to your case.

Watch out

With other adults

If the child travels with grandparents, uncles or aunts or other people, the authorization of both parents and a copy of their documents are usually required.

Watch out

Separated parents

If the parents are separated or divorced and the minor travels abroad, a court-approved permit may be required. Check in advance.

Watch out

Different surnames

If the minor and the adult have different surnames, bring documents that prove the family relationship or legal guardianship.

Watch out

Venezuelan law

The Organic Law for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (LOPNNA, arts. 391 to 393) regulates travel by minors within and outside the country.

Fact

Visas for minors

If the destination requires a visa, the birth certificate and identification of both parents are usually required, and signed consent if only one travels. Some consulates do not charge the youngest children.

Fact

The information is for guidance only: the exact conditions (weight, dimensions, ages, documents and costs) are set by each airline and each destination country and may change. Confirm with TUCUAM before buying or traveling.
